Moscow called media reports about the postponed meeting between the US Secretary of State and the Russian Foreign Minister "incorrect," noting that there was no specific agreement on the meeting itself.
As "European Pravda", such a comment by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov is quoted by Interfax.
Ryabkov was asked about news in the media citing sources about the postponed meeting between Marco Rubio and Sergey Lavrov. He said there was no specific agreement about it.
"It is impossible to postpone something about which there was no agreement. What some Western sources wrote yesterday, we did not confirm. We had no close understanding about the timing and place of such contact. As an idea it is of course, it is all of great importance," Lavrov's deputy commented.
"Precisely because the weight of such an event is very great, it requires preparation. And that is what we are doing. Yesterday, the minister and the secretary of state had a telephone conversation devoted to this," Ryabkov added.
We recall that the US media reported that the meeting between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, which was supposed to take place this week, has been postponed.
The possible date of the meeting between the secretary of state and the Russian foreign minister was October 23. It was to be held to prepare for a new face-to-face meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Budapest.
The specific reasons for the postponement of the meeting are not named, but one of the anonymous interlocutors said that it was due to too different visions of Rubio and Lavrov on what could be an acceptable conclusion to the Russian-Ukrainian war. The publication notes that it could also mean a postponement of the Budapest meeting that Trump and Putin had agreed to.
