For the first time in the world history of warfare, a combat robot has taken human captives: in Kharkiv region, an AFU ground drone operated by soldiers of the 3rd Assault Brigade repelled the position, forcing the occupiers to surrender. The Ukrainian military told The Washington Post that two Russian soldiers surrendered to a Ukrainian ground robot in the Kharkiv region in the summer. This is the first recorded case of a robot not only participating in combat, but also forcing the enemy to surrender. The operation was conducted by the 3rd Assault Brigade of the AFU.

According to the publication, the ground drone acted in conjunction with aerial drones and allowed Ukrainian forces to retake the fortified position without losing a single fighter.

How it happened

The Russian military held a section of the forest belt for two weeks. All attempts to dislodge them manually resulted in losses, so the command decided to use robots. First, a kamikaze drone hit an enemy dugout.

After that, a ground robot filled with explosives drove into the position. After the second strike, the aerial drone's camera recorded the unbelievable: a Russian soldier emerged from the destroyed shelter and raised a piece of cardboard with the inscription "We want to surrender".

A reconnaissance drone hovering over the position gave a sign of where to go. A few minutes later, two armed Russians without body armor emerged from the forest belt and followed the drone down the road - the robot literally led the captives to the Ukrainian fighters.

The Ukrainians destroyed their ground drone to prevent it from falling into enemy hands. But the significance of this operation can no longer be overemphasized. For the first time in world practice, artificial intelligence and remote-controlled technology forced humans to surrender.

"For me, the best result is not the prisoners, but the fact that not a single one of our soldiers died," said a company commander with the call sign "Nikolai."

The Washington Post notes that the event shows how quickly robots are changing the face of warfare: first they took over the sky, now the ground.
