This is a security measure due to the disruption of Vilnius Airport.
Lithuania suspended the passage of people and transport through the checkpoints on the border with Belarus: "Miadininkai" (from the Belarusan side - "Kamenny Log") and "Šalcininkai" ("Beniakoni"), reported in the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service (SOGS).
The agency explained that the closure of checkpoints is a security measure in connection with the launch of meteoprobes from Belarus to Lithuania on the night of October 22. The incident disrupted the work of Vilnius airport.
"At present, traffic and flows through both of these checkpoints are minimal. No special events or incidents related to the closure of the checkpoints were observed either on their territory or on the approaches to them until Wednesday morning," the SOGG said.
The Delfi writes, citing Lithuania's National Crisis Management Center (NCMC), that the overnight incident with weather probes affected 30 flights. The operation of Vilnius airport was halted at 22.23 on October 21.
There are preliminary reports that several dozen meteoprobes flew into Lithuania. So far, five have been found, and one citizen has been detained with 7,000 packs of smuggled cigarettes.
According to NCUK head Vilmantas Vitkauskas, 13 weather probes flew in the direction of the airport for about two hours.
The State Customs Committee of Belarus confirmed the information about the temporary closure of checkpoints:
"This night, Lithuania has closed traffic in two directions: from 3.00 through the checkpoint "Shalchininkai" (from the Belarusian side "Beniakoni") and from 5.00 through the checkpoint "Miadininkai" ("Kamenny Log"). Now more than 1,500 trucks are already registered in the electronic queue to leave Belarus at these checkpoints," reported in the agency.
