Ukraine To Receive Up To 150 Newest Swedish Gripen E Fighters

Sweden will sell 120-150 modern Saab JAS 39 Gripen E fighters to Ukraine. They are already starting to be produced, and the whole deal will stretch over 10-15 years.
This is reported by RBC-Ukraine citing Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson quoted by TV4 Nyheterna.
He noted that the two countries have signed a memorandum of intent - this number of aircraft will double Sweden's largest sales volume to date.
- This is the beginning of a long journey, but it brings us closer to a big export deal for Saab and for Sweden with Ukraine," Kristersson emphasized.
Sweden can currently sell just over ten Gripen C/D fighters.
- This opens up great opportunities for Ukraine's future air force, as well as for Sweden and the Swedish defense industry," the country's minister said.
What is known about the Gripen aircraft
Gripen E (Saab JAS 39E) is a modern multi-role fighter designed to perform missions in the air, on land and at sea. It is capable of both target interception and precision strikes.
The fighter is designed to operate in environments with limited infrastructure - it can take off from short strips, including temporary sites or highways.
The electronic warfare systems and modern radar AESA Raven ES-05 allow the Gripen E to effectively counter enemy fighters and air defense systems.
The Swedish aircraft is also capable of striking Western Meteor air-to-air missiles with a range of more than 100 kilometers. This gives it an advantage over most Russian aircraft.
