The United States is preparing for a new stage in the fight against drug trafficking in Venezuela. We are talking about land routes, along which the main flow of drug trafficking continues.

U.S. President Donald Trump said that the amount of drugs coming in by sea has dropped to less than 5% of last year's level.
He noted that such a result was achieved thanks to increased control and active operations of the U.S. military in the Gulf of Mexico.
According to him, there are now practically no vessels in the region, including fishing vessels, which demonstrates the effectiveness of the measures taken.
Trump emphasized that now the main flow of drugs has moved to land, so the next stage of the fight against smuggling will be associated with the elimination of land routes.
The US President added that he is considering an appeal to Congress and the Senate to obtain political support for this initiative, noting that he does not expect objections to such actions.
The next stage is operations in Venezuela
The US president said Washington intends to focus on fighting drug production and smuggling directly on Venezuelan territory.
According to him, the matter may involve ground operations aimed at destroying the logistical chains of drug supplies to Central and North America.
Trump emphasized that the fight against drug trafficking has already brought tangible results and has become one of the most successful areas of national security policy.
He also pointed out that drugs cause about 300,000 deaths annually, so the US will increase pressure on international drug networks.
The American president added that between the measures taken and diplomatic efforts, including negotiations with the Chinese leadership, the country has made significant progress in countering drug trafficking and intends to continue the course of tightening control.
