Tokyo has raised fighter jets.
Japan has again detected Russian military aviation activity near its borders. On October 24, the country's Air Force raised fighter jets to escort Russian Tu-95MS strategic bombers capable of carrying nuclear weapons, as well as Su-35 fighter jets that flew along the Japanese coast. This was reported by Reuters.
The Japanese Defense Ministry released a map of the flight path of Russian jets over the Sea of Japan near the country's west coast.
Tokyo said such activity is a cause for concern because, according to Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi, Russia conducts military operations near Japan almost daily, while waging a parallel war against Ukraine.
The incident occurred on the eve of new Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's speech to parliament. In her first speech, she noted the need to strengthen the country's defense capabilities amid growing threats from Russia.
