According to the publication, Trump's plan involves building large warships with hypersonic missiles and a new type of corvettes to counter China.

The American leader himself is involved in the development of the project, who, according to officials, has repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction with the appearance of modern destroyers.

The White House said the new initiative would be part of the president's efforts to "strengthen America's maritime dominance."

The "Golden Fleet" could include heavily armored ships with a displacement of up to 20,000 tons, capable of carrying hypersonic weapons, as well as dozens of unmanned vessels.

The U.S. Navy sees the fleet as the basis of a strategy for future operations in the Pacific.

At the same time, experts warn that the project could drag on for years - construction of the first ship could be completed after Trump's presidential term ends.
