Something Bad Is Happening To Russian Artillery On The Frontline

The analyst revealed the details.

During the full-scale war, the nature of Russian artillery losses has changed significantly, which probably indirectly reflects the exhaustion of modern artillery systems. Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) analyst Richard Vereker writes about this on the social network X.

He noted that at the beginning of the war, most Russian artillery losses were self-propelled artillery systems. However, in 2025, the situation has mirrored, and now about 2/3 of Russian artillery losses are attributed to towed guns.

Another transformation is related to the caliber of these guns. At the beginning of the war, about 2/3 of the losses accounted for the main artillery caliber of the Russian army - 152 mm. However, it now accounts for only 11% of the total number of guns lost, while the rest are mostly 122 mm artillery pieces.

Vereker notes that visually verified losses do not necessarily accurately reflect the proportions in which the Russians use different types of guns. However, in the absence of other verified data, this is still the best available indicator of what the Russians are fighting with today.
