Z-bloggers Told Why Gerasimov Is Lying
Valery Gerasimov

The head of the Russian General Staff is making up successes on the front.

Putin held a meeting with the chief of the Russian General Staff and commanders of the Russian military groups.

Valery Gerasimov reported to the Russian dictator on October 26 about the fighting in Donbass, Kherson region and Zaporizhzhya region.

The chief of the Russian General Staff had time to report to Putin about the alleged encirclement of 5,500 Ukrainian troops in the Pokrovsk direction. Gerasimov said that Russian authorities had instructed the Central Group of Forces to destroy the allegedly encircled Ukrainian forces near Pokrovsk and Mirnograd.

According to him, Ukrainian forces near Kupyansk are also allegedly encircled. Gerasimov also said that Russian forces had advanced in the southern direction of Volchansk and captured more than 70 percent of the city.

Russian war correspondents, as "Dialog" writes, denied Gerasimov's statements. Several Z-channels said that Gerasimov was lying and Russian troops did not surround Ukrainian forces in Kupyansk and Pokrovsk. One military correspondent said that a multi-kilometer corridor still exists between Russian groups operating west and north of Pokrovsk. Another noted: fire control does not mean that Russian forces have encircled Ukrainian forces in the area.

War correspondents pointed to the permeability of the front. Ukrainian forces often maintain positions in localities that Russian sources claim have allegedly been seized by Russian forces, and Pokrovsk and Kupyansk are in "100% chaos." Another military correspondent assessed that Gerasimov is "getting ahead of himself again" and expects the alleged reality on the ground to "catch up with his reports soon."

In general, Russian military correspondents are confident that Gerasimov's report is aimed at provoking US President Donald Trump to "ask for mercy" for the encircled Ukrainian forces and to give Trump the impression of serious Ukrainian problems on the front - just as the US head of state assessed Putin's statements about "encircled Ukrainian forces" in Kursk region in March 2025.
