Lithuania Demands New Sanctions Against Lukashenko's Regime

Vilnius also wants to synchronize the restrictions with anti-Russian ones.

The European Union needs to strengthen sanctions against Belarus and synchronize them with the anti-Russian ones. The Belarusian authorities give reasons for this.

This was stated by Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kiastutis Budrys in his commentary to Politico.

"It is necessary to expand the sanctions regime against Belarus, including hybrid actions as one of the reasons. We need to synchronize sanctions against Russia and Belarus, and there are some sectoral restrictions on which we have not yet agreed, such as aviation," the official said.

The foreign minister pointed out that the European Union also needs to seriously consider imposing duties on Belarusian goods.

Budris added that Lithuania will now work with NATO and the EU on a joint response and expects not only political support, "but also concrete measures against the Belarusian regime" to make it clear that violating Lithuanian airspace from the territory of Belarus is a violation of Belarusian airspace. Our argument is that if we don't stop them here, they will do it elsewhere," said the minister.
