Trump also said the U.S. was going to cooperate with Japan on shipbuilding. Shortly before that, the president met with Japan's new Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in Tokyo. Trump reiterated Washington's willingness to continue strengthening Japan's defense capabilities.
At that meeting, the Japanese prime minister presented Trump with a golf club from the late Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and then accompanied the U.S. politician to the Yokosuka Naval Base, where the aircraft carrier George Washington now stands.
