Is the U.S. willing to go to war for Qatar?

U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order to guarantee Qatar's security, pledging diplomatic, economic and military support to the ally following the recent Israeli airstrike on Doha.

According to RBC-Ukraine with reference to Trump's executive order, which was published by the White House website.

U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order that obliged the United States to defend Qatar in case of an attack. The document was published on the official website of the White House. The decision comes amid tensions in the Middle East and the recent Israeli airstrike on Qatar's capital Doha.

According to the decree, any armed attack on Qatar's territory, sovereignty or critical infrastructure will be considered by the US as a threat to its own security.

In the event of such an attack, "the United States will take all lawful and appropriate measures - diplomatic, economic, and, if necessary, military - to protect interests," the text of the document reads.

The conversation with the emirs and Qatar's response

The White House administration said Donald Trump had a telephone conversation with Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Oct. 1. Details were not disclosed, but the Qatari side noted that Doha's efforts to establish a truce between Israel and Hamas were discussed.

The Qatari Foreign Ministry welcomed the signing of the decree, calling it "an important step in strengthening the defense partnership between the two countries." The government stressed that Washington's decision would strengthen security and diplomatic cooperation.

Israeli airstrike on Doha

The signing of the decree came amid rising tensions: in early September, Israel launched an airstrike on the Qatari capital. According to the Israeli army, it was a joint operation with the Shin Bet, aimed against the top leadership of Hamas.

Officially, the Israeli statement did not mention the strike specifically on Qatar, but the fact of the Doha attack caused a wide international outcry.

A strategic ally of the United States

Qatar is of key importance for the American military presence in the region. It is here, at Al-Udeid Air Base, that the US Central Command's forward operating base, one of the largest US bases outside the country, is located.

Analysts note that the new decree effectively equates Qatar's security with US interests, which could significantly alter the balance of power in the Middle East and trigger an Israeli response.
