The U.S. president gave the reason for this decision.

US President Donald Trump said he has instructed the Pentagon to immediately begin testing America's nuclear weapons.

He made the announcement in a Truth Social.

The White House chief emphasized that the US has more nuclear weapons than any other country.

"This was accomplished, including a complete modernization and upgrade of existing weapons, during my first term in office," Trump said.

The US president added that because of the immense destructive power of nuclear weapons, he "hated to do it," but he had no choice.

Trump said Russia is second in nuclear weapons and China is third by a wide margin, but Beijing will equal Moscow within 5 years. Therefore, he instructed to start testing U.S. nuclear weapons.

"Because of testing programs conducted by other countries, I have instructed the Department of War to begin testing our nuclear weapons on an equal basis. This process will begin immediately. Thank you for your attention to this issue," the White House chief summarized.
