Ukraine And EU Prepare Plan To End Temporary Protection For Ukrainians

Its three key principles are named.

Ukraine and the European Union are coordinating a plan for the stay of Ukrainian citizens in EU countries and their return home, writes "Unian".

The Deputy Minister of Social Policy, Family and Unity for European Integration of Ukraine Ilona Havronska voiced the main principles on which the step-by-step plan for the gradual completion of the EU Temporary Protection Directive for Ukrainians should be based.

She said that now Ukraine together with its European partners is coordinating further steps to make this process fair, predictable and based on respect for people's choices.

- Our joint work with the EU on future changes for Ukrainians is based on three key principles: unity, dignity and partnership. Unity is about supporting Ukrainians' connection to their homeland, to each other and to Europe. Dignity is about recognizing that Ukrainians abroad are actively participating in the life of the countries that have taken them in, rather than being a burden on them," said Havronska.

She stressed that we need to work together so that every Ukrainian in the EU, regardless of whether he or she decides to stay or return home, feels part of the European future.

"Now is the time to look forward - how we can move from temporary protection to permanent policies based on partnership," the deputy minister said.

Havronska also emphasized the importance of social cohesion among Ukrainians both abroad and in Ukraine.
