Russia's Orel Was Left Without Heat And Hot Water After A Drone Attack On A Thermal Power Plant

Restoration work will continue through the night.

Residents of three out of four districts of the city of Orel were left without heat supply and hot water as a result of a morning drone raid by the AFU, during which the local combined heat and power plant (CHPP) was damaged for the first time since the beginning of the war against Ukraine. This was reported by Oryol Governor Andrey Klychkov in his Telegram channel, writes The Moscow Times.

He said repair crews are repairing "a number of damages" to the main pipeline of the CHPP received during the strike, and the work will last "until the night of today." "In this regard, it will be necessary to limit heat and hot water supply to buildings in the Soviet, Zheleznodorozhny and Northern districts of the city of Orel," the governor explained. He also urged not to panic and said that the authorities "have everything under control." During the night, the Ukrainian strike also caused a power outage in Orel.

Klychkov said that by morning the power supply lines had been repaired and electricity had been "fully restored." Last night, air defense forces "neutralized" at least nine Ukrainian drones attacking the Orel region, he specified. Earlier, the official reported that during the raid, UAV debris fell on the territory of the Oryol thermal power plant, damaging "power supply equipment." According to the head of the region, no one was injured.

Orlovskaya CHPP is the largest generating source of electricity and heat in the region. Night temperatures in Orel now do not exceed +5-6 degrees Celsius.
