Three Meteoprobes Have Been Detected In Lithuania

The airport in Vilnius suspended operations because of them.

Three weather probes carrying contraband were detected in Lithuania after the airport in Vilnius was closed from 20:10 to 22:43 local time (21:10 to 23:43 Belarusian time) on October 30, Delfi reported.

The head of the National Crisis Management Center (NCMC), Vilmantas Vitkauskas, noted that radar detected more than ten "marks" in total, presumably related to balloons.

"Compared to the numbers we had last week, this is very little," Vitkauskas stressed.

According to State Border Guard Service (SOGG) advisor Giedrius Misutis, two weather probes with cigarettes were found in Varenna district the previous evening, while another one was discovered by police officers in Vilnius the same evening.

All three cargoes "have been handed over to border guards, who are conducting preliminary investigations into the discovery of such finds," said the SOGG representative.

The restrictions will be in force until 24:00 on November 30, with the possibility of their extension.

The Shalchinkai checkpoint will be closed completely, while Myadininkai - with some exceptions.
