Peace Prize Winner Backed US 'escalation' Against Venezuela

Maria Machado sees a military operation as the only chance to topple the Maduro regime.

Nobel Peace Prize 2025 laureate Maria Corina Machado supports a possible "escalation" in relations between the United States and Venezuela because she considers it the last chance to topple dictator Nicolas Maduro. She made the corresponding statement in an interview with Bloomberg (translation - "Unian").

Maria Machado is an opposition activist from Venezuela. She was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize a few weeks ago for her opposition activities.

In September and October of this year, the U.S. sank several ships in the Caribbean Sea that were carrying drugs from Venezuela. Now Trump is already publicly speculating about a possible invasion of Venezuela. A reporter asked how Machado, a peace laureate, feels about a possible U.S. ground operation against Venezuela.

- I think the escalation that has happened is the only way to make Maduro realize that it's time to leave. This escalation is the last chance for those who still support Maduro to realize that they need to withdraw any support from him, and for Maduro himself to realize that this is the last chance to really facilitate a peaceful and orderly transition, which is what we want, what we've been fighting for," she said.

Machado emphasized that Nicolas Maduro's regime rigged the results of 35 elections at different levels in Venezuela, that the people came out in peaceful protests, but they were violently suppressed.

- We finally demonstrated, we won, and then we were attacked. We had thousands of protests, peaceful rallies, demonstrations. We tried every institutional means," Machado said.
