The public records revealed "copy-cat" signatures.

The US Department of Justice has found itself at the center of a scandal after nearly identical signatures were discovered in public documents pardoning Donald Trump.

It was reported by AP.

At one time, Donald Trump criticized his predecessor Joe Biden quite harshly for using autopen signatures, calling such signatures "invalid" because of the high risk of abuse.

And now the U.S. Justice Department has found itself in the midst of a high-profile scandal over Trump's "copycat" signatures under the November 7 pardon decrees.

The pardons in question are over former New York Mets player Derril Stroberry, former Speaker of the House of Representatives Tennessee Glenn Casada and former police sergeant Michael McMahon.

When the U.S. Department of Justice released this series of presidential pardons by Donald Trump, it turned out that the signatures on them were virtually identical.

At the same time, forensic documentation experts noted that in reality no two signatures could be exactly the same.

So after the publicity, the Justice Department had to update the documents. It said the problem arose due to a "technical error" and personnel nuances.

It should be noted that the incident occurred amid a new flood of pardons covering Trump's political allies, his campaign donors and others convicted of various crimes.

Administration officials said Trump signed all the pardons personally and the changes do not affect the legitimacy of the decisions.

Jurists note that re-uploading the pardons publicly with the corrected signatures does not affect their legitimacy because the key is the president's intent in granting the pardons. This case, however, has raised a debate about transparency and oversight of the pardon process in the U.S., particularly in the context of comparisons with the previous president's practice.
