Putin's goals haven't changed.
Finnish President Alexander Stubb says a cease-fire in Ukraine is unlikely to be reached before spring and European allies should continue to support Ukraine despite the corruption scandal.
"I am not very optimistic about reaching a cease-fire or starting peace talks, at least this year," Stubb said in an interview with Associated Press.
The politician said Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky should "quickly deal with allegations of bribery and embezzlement of funds" because the scandal plays into Russia's hands. However, he urged European leaders to consider increasing financial and military support for Kiev amid Russia's advances on the battlefield.
Stubb said the three main issues on the way to a ceasefire are security guarantees for Ukraine, rebuilding its economy and reaching some agreement on territorial claims.
The Finnish president also emphasized that U.S. leader Donald Trump and European leaders should maximize pressure on Russia and the Russian dictator
