Orban: Merkel Yelled At Me More Often Than My Wife Did

Hungary's prime minister said the former German chancellor is "more complicated than he appears outwardly".

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán told the MD meets podcast (published on YouTube) that during his time working with former German Chancellor Angela Merkel she raised her voice at him "more often than his wife".

Orbán said he enjoyed working with Merkel despite disagreements.

"I respected Angela Merkel for many things. She was very intelligent and attractive. In politics, looks are sometimes important. I enjoyed cooperating with her [...] Sometimes she even shouted at me. It was not good, she did it even more often than my wife. But that speaks volumes," the Hungarian prime minister joked.

Orban noted that Merkel was "more complicated than she appears outwardly."

The Hungarian politician added that he agreed with her "almost 100 percent" in strategically defining Europe's interests and relations with Russia.

"It is quite fashionable now to speak badly of her. It is unfair. She has done a lot of good things for Germany and for Europe, and of course a lot of bad things," Orbán summarized.
