European leaders have developed their proposals for a peaceful settlement of the war in Ukraine. They envision Kiev regaining control of key strategic facilities without restrictions for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The Washington Post reports The Washington Post.
According to a copy of the European proposal obtained by the publication, no restrictions are envisioned for the Ukrainian military. The plan calls for returning the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant and the Kakhovka dam to Ukrainian control, as well as ensuring "free passage" along the Dnieper and control over the Kinburn Spit.
Other territorial disputes are to be addressed after a cease-fire.
An anonymous European official said senior officials from France, Germany and Britain will join the peace plan talks in Geneva on Sunday. The discussions are aimed at developing a common European approach to resolving the conflict and ensuring stability in the region.
U.S. Peace Plan for Ukraine
The United States recently unveiled a 28-point plan aimed at ending the war in Ukraine. According to this draft, which was developed jointly by representatives of the United States and the Russian Federation, Kiev must give up the occupied parts of Zaporizhzhya and Kherson regions, as well as Donetsk and Lugansk regions. In return, Ukraine is offered certain security guarantees. Other conditions include a reduction in the size of the Ukrainian army and an official refusal to join the North Atlantic Alliance.
European leaders criticized the initiative and immediately set about creating their own alternative plan. Meanwhile, Donald Trump gave Kiev an ultimatum: agree to the terms by November 27, otherwise Ukraine's situation could worsen. However, already on November 22, he clarified that the text of the agreement is not yet final and can be adjusted.
The President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky in an address to the nation noted that the state faces a difficult choice between preserving its own dignity and the risk of losing its main partner. The discussion of the American project with the participation of Ukraine, the EU and the United States is scheduled for November 23 in Geneva. Zelenskyy noted that he would defend Ukrainian interests at this meeting.
