Russia Faces A Shortage Of Passenger Airplanes

340 boards will be scrapped.

Russia is losing the ability to maintain its civil aviation at an increasing rate due to its complete dependence on foreign technologies and lack of access to their maintenance. This is reported. Ukraine's Foreign Intelligence Service.

According to the intelligence service, SSJ-100 airplanes, which are still operated by Russian airlines, are equipped with French SaM146 engines. After the imposition of sanctions, official service of these engines became impossible. Now the SSJ-100 fleet suffers from numerous technical failures - in particular, problems with control systems and landing gear. Repair is actually maintained only by "dismantling" other aircraft for spare parts.

The situation is no better with the MS-21 medium-range project. The MS-21-300 model, which was supposed to enter the market, was stopped after 2022, because it was equipped with American Pratt & Whitney PW1000G engines. The MS-21-310 version, in which it was planned to replace more than 70 Western-made components, is still underdeveloped. Russian manufacturers have failed to create their own de-icing systems, weather locators, power supply modules, toilet blocks and collision avoidance systems. In addition, the range of the updated model has been reduced from 6,400 to 3,830 kilometers.

The crisis has also affected other Russian aircraft projects. The Baikal aircraft, which was supposed to be a replacement for the legendary An-2, was officially recognized as a failure, although funding for it continues to be allocated.

The head of Rosaviatsia, Dmitri Yadrov, predicts that by 2030 Russia will be forced to write off about 340 aircraft, of which 230 are domestically produced and 109 are foreign-made.
