The German Chancellor said they were unacceptable.
The provisions of the US peace plan concerning the distribution of Russian assets frozen in the territory of European countries are "unacceptable". German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said this in an interview with ARD.
He noted that the U.S. government cannot dispose of funds held in the European Union and recalled that the EU plans to use these assets to provide Ukraine with a reparation loan.
"This is unacceptable. <...> If this loan is granted, it will be granted by the European Union and given to Ukraine so that it can continue to buy weapons. But it doesn't affect the Americans directly. And so, of course, the Americans cannot access this amount," he said.
The essence of the "reparation loan" is to provide Ukraine with a €140 billion sum from blocked Russian assets. Under it, Kiev will receive the loan, but will repay the funds only after receiving compensation from Russia.
