London has said it is ready to respond to any Russian actions.

The British Royal Navy has intercepted the Russian corvette Stoyky and a tanker off the UK coast, Independent and Associated Press reported, citing statements from the country's Ministry of Defense.

According to the ministry, the patrol ship HMS Severn had been monitoring the movement of Russian vessels through the Strait of Dover and further west for two weeks. The surveillance was later handed over to an unnamed NATO ally off the coast of Brittany, with HMS Severn continuing to monitor at a distance, the Defense Ministry said. The exact time of the interception was not named.

The number of Russian ships approaching British waters has increased by 30 percent in two years, the defense ministry said. Royal Navy Command described the operation as part of regular interaction with NATO allies.

Besides, Britain has sent three of its newest Poseidon surveillance aircraft to Iceland as part of a larger NATO mission to monitor Russian ships and submarines in the North Atlantic and Arctic, the Independent wrote.

British authorities earlier reported the repeated appearance near British waters of the Russian oceanographic vessel Yantar, which Western experts regard as a reconnaissance vessel and capable of using underwater vehicles. The vessel was spotted off the UK coast in November 2024 and January 2025.

The country's Defense Ministry claimed that crews of P-8 Poseidon aircraft encountered laser glare from the Yantar, after which patrol aircraft were deployed to monitor it. Military chief John Healey characterized the Yantar activity as a potential threat and said London was ready to respond to any Russian action.
