A new plant to produce interceptors for the Iron Dome air defense system has opened in the United States, which will strengthen Israel's defense capabilities and expand military-industrial cooperation between the countries.
It was reported by Breaking Defense.
American company Raytheon together with Israel's Rafael officially launched production of interceptor missiles in the United States. Construction of the facility has been underway since late 2023, with a total investment of $33 million.
Israel has placed an order for interceptors worth a total of $1.25 billion, with funding secured through U.S. aid. Earlier, Israel's Defense Ministry awarded a "multi-billion dollar contract" to Rafael for new Tamir missiles.
The contract will significantly strengthen the state's air defense capabilities and allow it to respond more effectively to national security threats, according to Israel's defense minister.
The production of Iron Dome components is funded by an $8.7 billion U.S. aid package passed in April 2024. Of that, $5.2 billion is earmarked directly for air defense systems.
The signing of the relevant documents took place at the Israeli Defense Ministry headquarters in Tel Aviv, with the participation of U.S. Military Attaché Major General Major General Aaron Drake and representatives of the Israeli defense sector.
The new plant is part of increased strategic cooperation between the U.S. and Israel and will ensure stable production of key elements of the Iron Dome system.
