The coalition meeting was attended for the first time by the U.S. Secretary of State.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said following a virtual meeting of a "coalition of the resolute" on Tuesday that further pressure on Russia was needed to force peace.

Fon der Leyen said U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio attended the "coalition of the resolute" meeting, adding that Europe and Washington "need strong transatlantic cooperation."
"Because it produces results. Take, for example, the significant impact of our coordinated and consistent waves of sanctions against the Russian economy. They reduce the resources Russia has available to wage its war of conquest," the European Commission president wrote.
"And because pressure remains the only language to which Russia responds, we will continue to intensify it until there is a real willingness to join a credible path to peace," she added.
Fon der Leyen also condemned Russia's latest massive shelling of Ukraine, during which Russian drones violated Moldovan and Romanian airspace.
"This is yet another reminder that Ukraine's security is Europe's security. Ukraine's interests are our interests. They are inseparable. Therefore, we will continue to firmly support Ukraine in future negotiations," she wrote.
