Germany Will Officially Get A Defense Against "Nuttall"

Analysts explained what makes Arrow-3 special.

Germany will soon formally announce the operational readiness of the Arrow-3 system it ordered from Israel in 2023. It allows it to intercept ballistic missiles of at least medium range, like the Russian Oreshnik, which Russian President Vladimir Putin is talking about.

The initial operational readiness of Israel's Arrow-3 missile defense system is to be officially announced on December 3 at the Feuerwehr Holzdorf air base in eastern Germany, German publication ESUT writes. Defense Express analysts note that 98 million euros were planned to be spent on the development of this base from 2024 to 2027, while the cost of the deal with Israel reached $3.5 billion.

According to analysts, the original procurement plan provided for deliveries until the end of 2025, so the weapons from Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) were deployed on time. The Bundeswehr plans to deploy the Arrow 3 at two more sites, the location of which was not disclosed. According to the plan, the system should be fully deployed and brought to operational readiness by 2030.

The Ukrainian edition recalled that Arrow 3 is capable of defending against medium-range ballistic missiles by kinetic interception outside the atmosphere. Analysts noted that such a system can intercept such missiles as the Russian Armed Forces' so-called "Oreshnik" and has already proven its effectiveness against ballistics during the Israeli army's repulsion of Iranian attacks.

An important part of the Arrow 3 is the ballistic target detection and tracking system, which is based on the EL/M-2080 Green Pine radar system. According to analysts, in the updated version of Block-B the range of target detection is up to 900 km.

Also, the Germans have already decided to purchase a weaker system Arrow 4, which is now at the development stage - it is needed to intercept air targets in the upper atmosphere.

Defense Express recalled that for protection against ballistic and aeroballistic missiles at the lowest level of missile defense in the German army are responsible Patriot PAC-3. They intercept targets above the object and at altitudes up to 20-30 km.

It is worth noting, on October 31, the Defense Express portal told what kind of weapon is similar to the "Oreshnik", which Russian President Vladimir Putin boasts. According to analysts, its characteristics are similar to the old Soviet Pioneer complex, and if launched from Belarus, most of Ukraine will be in the "blind" zone.

September 16, analysts of the Army Recognition portal asked whether Europe is capable of creating a unified air defense system. The observers noted that European countries started working on the "Sky Shield" against Russian Shaheds, Kh-101 missiles and Iskanders at the initiative of Germany.
