Shooting Near White House: Trump Requested 500 Fighters Be Sent To Washington, D.C.

The injured National Guardsmen are in critical condition.

On Wednesday, November 26, an unidentified man opened fire on two National Guardsmen two blocks from the White House. For this reason, U.S. President Donald Trump has requested that an additional 500 troops be sent to Washington.

U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said this, according to CNN.

"This will only strengthen our resolve to make Washington safe and beautiful," Hegseth said.

He added that he will send a request to the Secretary of the Army.

What is known about the shooting in Washington and what is known about the shooter

We will recall that earlier the media reported that two members of the US National Guard were killed in a shooting near the White House.

According to CNN, the suspect approached the guards intending to attack them and first shot one of the guardsmen who was only a few feet away.

According to a source, afterwards the suspect shot another soldier who was trying to hide behind cover at a bus stop.

The source said the suspect is not cooperating with the investigation and had no identification on him at the time of his arrest.

Killed or Wounded

At this point, information about the fighters' condition is rather conflicting. The governor of West Virginia wrote in X that both fighters were dead. However, he later retracted his statement.

"We are currently receiving conflicting reports on the condition of our two Guardsmen and will report further as soon as we have more complete information," he wrote in a new post.

In the meantime, FBI Director Kash Patel has also already stated that the fighters are in critical condition.

"Because this is an assault on a federal law enforcement officer, it will be treated as a federal crime. The FBI will lead the investigation," he added to reporters.

Washington Mayor Elizabeth Bowser said the suspect purposefully opened fire against U.S. National Guard personnel.

Police, meanwhile, say there are no other suspects besides the detainee.

"So at this point, there is no indication that there was another suspect. The only suspect involved in this incident was shot and killed during the confrontation and taken to the hospital for treatment," said Assistant Chief of the Metropolitan Police Department Jeff Carroll.

Remember that US President Donald Trump also commented on the incident. He wrote in his social networks that the "animal" who opened fire on the National Guard - will be punished.
