The dismantling will be complete.
Latvia is considering the possibility of complete dismantling of sections of the railroad line leading to Russia. The decision is planned to be made early next year.
According to LSM.lv.
The Latvian government will analyze information about the possible demolition of the railway line on the country's eastern border by the end of 2025, taking into account the opinion of the Lithuanian and Estonian Armed Forces.
Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics said that more precise information about the dismantling of the railway line is expected in early 2026.
"We cannot rule out any option to strengthen national defense and security, but such decisions must be made taking into account the timing and scope of the work, as well as assessing its impact on various socio-economic aspects," he said.
The dismantling of the track leading to Russia is being considered as part of measures to strengthen the security of the eastern border. The issue is also expected to be raised by the presidents and prime ministers of the Baltic states.
As reported in October, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are developing contingency plans in case of a Russian attack or escalation on their borders.
