This will reduce the military potential of the Russian Federation.
Finland believes that if the new "peace" plan to end Russia's war against Ukraine, developed by the administration of US President Donald Trump, envisages a reduction in the number of the AFU, then it is necessary to do the same with the Russian army.
This opinion was expressed by the head of the Finnish Foreign Ministry Elina Valtonen, writes Yle.
Valtonen reminded that Russia has historically always posed a threat to neighboring countries, not the other way around. And it was the Russian army that attacked Ukraine. In this regard, it would be fair if they limit not only the number of the AFU, but also the Russian army.
In addition, Valtonen believes that the peace agreement on Ukraine should provide for Russia to reduce its military spending. According to her, all this can be linked to a broader system of control over Russia's armaments, as even after the end of the war the Russian army will pose a threat to Europe.
It should be noted that earlier the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas also spoke about the need to reduce the size of the Russian army.
She is concerned about the Kremlin's military potential, so she suggested that the peace deal on Ukraine should provide for a reduction in Russia's spending on the army. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte also adheres to a similar position.
He believes that even if dictator Putin signs a peace deal with Ukraine, Russia will still remain a threat to Europe for a long time.
Europe is concerned about Russia's growing arsenal of long-range missiles and drones. They see this as a threat to European security.
U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll, whom Trump has made responsible for pushing his new "peace" plan to end Russia's war on Ukraine, is trying to persuade European foreign ministers to speed up the cessation of hostilities by warning them that Russia is increasing its arsenal of long-range weapons.
