US President Donald Trump has announced the death of a National Guard member who was wounded in a shooting near the White House.
It was reported by Fox News.
Trump announced the death of 20-year-old West Virginia National Guardswoman Sarah Beckstrom during his Thanksgiving address.
"Sarah Beckstrom of West Virginia, one of the Guardsmen we're talking about, a respected, young, remarkable woman, began her service in June 2023, proving herself to be an outstanding person. She just passed away," Trump said.
A second National Guardsman, 24-year-old Andrew Wolfe, remains in critical condition, Trump informed.
The soldiers were injured on Nov. 26 in Washington, D.C., where a shooting occurred a few blocks from the White House.
After the incident, it was reported that both soldiers were dead, but FBI Director Cash Patel soon denied the claims. He said the National Guardsmen were in critical condition.
