Vilnius Has Found A Solution For The Return Of Lithuanian Semi-trailers Stuck In Belarus

They hope to bring back tractor-trailers as well.

Lithuania has found a solution that will allow Lithuanian companies to return their semi-trailers from Belarus. This was reported by the Lithuanian National Association of Road Carriers Linava.

The organization said that "after intensive consultation" with customs, an agreement was reached whereby tractor-trailers registered in Lithuania will be able to leave the country without semi-trailers, so that they can bring semi-trailers from the territory of Belarus.

"This solution provides a real opportunity to return their property and reduce losses," Linava said.

But only semi-trailers can be brought, the issue of tractors remains unresolved, as the Belarusian authorities still do not allow them to leave, the organization said. This issue will be further coordinated through diplomatic channels.

"It was important for us to ensure that the carriers did not lose their semi-trailers, it's their property and means necessary for work, and could return them. Together with the Customs Department we found a way to return the semi-trailers, this is an important step in stabilizing the situation. We are working further to return the tractors as well," said Linava President Erlandas Mikenas.

The organization stressed that the situation remains difficult, but "this step prevents even greater losses." It also promised to "make every possible effort to ensure the return of all the property of carriers."

We will remind, October 29, Lithuania closed the border with Belarus in connection with the increasing incidents of arrival of weather probes with contraband, which threatened the work of airports. After that, Belarus actually banned the exit of Lithuanian trucks - allowing it only through the Lithuanian border crossings, which were closed.

November 20, the work of two closed border crossings was resumed. However, the Lithuanian trucks, stuck in Belarus, still can't return home. They were forcibly sent to paid parking lots. The association of Lithuanian trucking companies Linava called it a racketeering.
