The resolution was adopted, which notes that the Belarusian government has again failed to provide new information about the measures taken to implement the recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry. The document also calls on the Belarusian authorities to reconsider their position and fully cooperate with Special Envoy Lelio Bentes Correa, whose mandate has been extended to 2026 (we recall that his powers are not recognized by the official Minsk).
The ILO Governing Body also noted the release of trade union leaders Alexandr Yaroshuk and Gennady Fedynich, urging the government to return their passports and resume payment of their pensions without further delay; reiterated its request to the Government of Belarus to accept, as a matter of priority, an international humanitarian mission to allow independent doctors to visit all imprisoned trade unionists to assess their health and provide medical assistance if necessary, and a tripartite ILO mission to assess the situation.
40 members of the Governing Body voted in favor of the resolution, 2 (representatives of Russia and China) against, and 9 abstained.
Belarus remains under the ILO's toughest measure, paragraph 33, previously applied only twice in history.
