Opposition Leader Ali Kerimli Detained In Azerbaijan

He was arrested by the country's intelligence services.

It became known about the detention of the chairman of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PPFA) and former State Secretary of Azerbaijan Ali Kerimli.

Today, November 29, his associates reported that the opposition leader was detained by officers of the State Security Service of Azerbaijan. Official reasons for the arrest were not reported.

At the same time, the house of Mammad Ibrahim, a member of the PNFA Presidium, was searched and information about his detention was received.

"We declare that the detention of Ali Kerimli is solely politically motivated. For the last years the authorities have kept him in a state of de facto blockade - restricting his access to the Internet, communications and public activities. We demand the immediate release of Ali Kerimli and Mammad Ibrahim, an end to the harassment of opposition members and supporters, and the admission of lawyers and security guarantees for the detainees"," Ali Kerimli's fellow party members said in a statement.
