Hegseth and Driscoll can't stand each other.

Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth and U.S. Secretary of the Army Daniel Driscoll have a strained relationship. The Financial Times wrote about it.

FT claims that "one of Washington's worst kept secrets" is Driscoll's strained relationship with Secretary of War Hegseth. Driscoll is widely seen as a contender for the job if Hegseth is forced to leave, the publication notes. He has "definitely made it clear" that he wants to lead the Pentagon, says a former U.S. Defense Department official.

The Journal notes that at 38, Driscoll became the youngest U.S. Secretary of the Army in history. He attended Yale Law School at the same time as Vance and became friends with him.

As Secretary of the U.S. Army, Driscoll currently oversees the Army's $185 billion budget, nearly 1 million troops, more than 265,000 civilians and weapons procurement for the armed forces. Driscoll has invited private equity firms to invest in the military and wants to bring more commercial and defense technology companies into the contracting process, the article said.
