Four Companies With Belarusian Roots Made Their Way Into The Top Businesses In Poland

The highest position is with EPAM Systems.

According to the results of 2024, the influential publication Rzeczpospolita included 4 companies with Belarusian roots in the Lista2000 of the largest companies in Poland. Compared to the previous list, there is one more of them. All of them, despite the drop in the average index of the rating participants, increased their revenue, writes "Belarusians and the market".

The highest position of Belarusians in Lista2000 is EPAM Systems (Poland) - 361st.

Last year, sales of the well-known IT-business grew by 0.7% (up to PLN 1.936 billion), which allowed it to move up four lines in the rating.

The operator of the discount gas station network E100 Power Max moved up to the first thousand (from 1131st to 803rd place) in Lista2000. This company, controlled by ex-Brest residents Uladzimir and Maksim Stajecki, earned PLN 998.2 million in the period under review. This is 42.1% more than a year earlier.

The progress of the large logistics business Tels Global Polska, owned by Vladimir Tayanko and Ivan Shakhovich, is noticeable. In 2023, the company ranked 1583rd with revenues of PLN 505.2 million. At the end of last year, the operator moved up to 1411th position, thanks to an increase in revenue to PLN 580.9 million.

Finally, for the first time, the Polish division of IT gadget manufacturer and distributor Asbis Poland was included in the Rzeczpospolita ranking. With a revenue of PLN 472.9 million, this company ranked 1762nd. Asbis Poland's revenue grew by more than 25% and amounted to PLN 472.9 million.

In general, according to the authors of the rating, the average revenue of the rating participants was 3.4% lower than the 2023 version.

In particular, despite the acquisition of PGNiG, the indicator of the unchanged Lista2000 leader Orlen decreased by 1/5 (to PLN 294,976.0 million). The company attributed this to lower prices for oil, gas and petrochemical products, as well as limited growth in sales volumes.

A more worrying factor, Rzeczpospolita analysts point out, is the drop in profits at a rate more noticeable than revenue. Total gross profit of the rating participants fell by almost 10% year-on-year, while net profit - by almost 14%. By the way, among the Belarusian participants of Lista2000, only EPAM Systems (Poland) has increased its profit compared to the previous year.

"This testifies to the difficult conditions in which entrepreneurs work in Poland: it is difficult to scale the business (demand is limited), and costs are growing. This is evident, for example, in wages, which increased last year, although the number of employees remained unchanged," the commentary says.

As for individual sectors, the leader in terms of revenue reduction in 2024 was the energy sector. Sales in this sector decreased, as Rzeczpospolita experts put it, by a "staggering" 32%.

Significant decreases were also recorded in the fuel, chemical and mining sectors. Wholesale trade and manufacturing were also down, while the automotive sector symbolically grew by less than 1%.

Construction, media, telecommunications and IT, as well as the food industry showed slightly better results, but volume growth was lower than last year.

The sectors that do have reason for optimism include retail (+6.2%), transportation (+8.6%), healthcare and pharmaceuticals (+10.1%), and services (+10.7%).
