Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said that the issue of possible territorial decisions should be determined by the people of Ukraine - through elections or a referendum.

The head of state said this while talking to journalists on December 11, according to a correspondent of RBC-Ukraine.

The president explained that the U.S. side proposes the creation of a so-called "free economic" or, as the Russians say, "demilitarized" zone in part of Donbas. According to this plan, Ukrainian troops should withdraw from part of the territory, and Russian troops should not enter there.

At the same time, many questions remain, Zelensky said, namely: who is in charge of this zone, what will be the monitoring mechanism, whether the Russian Federation withdraws troops to the mirror distance, and how to prevent possible infiltration of Russian forces under the guise of "civilians."

The head of state emphasized that the proposed model is not in Ukraine's interests, because it is fair to stand on the contact line, but the dialog continues, and Kiev is looking for fair solutions, o 'In the format of elections or in the format of a referendum, but there must be a position of the people of Ukraine,' Zelensky said.

He added that now in fact much depends on the Ukrainian army.

"What the Ukrainian military can contain, how they can stand, where they can destroy the occupier. This affects the whole diplomatic construct," Zelensky summarized.
