Ukraine And U.S. Hold Talks On Security Guarantees

From the US were Rubio, Hegseth, Whitkoff and Kushner.

The Ukrainian delegation on December 11 had a "constructive and deep" conversation with the US team on one of the three peace documents, which deals with security guarantees for Kiev. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky told X.

According to him, the US delegation was represented in particular by: Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth, special envoy of US President Donald Trump Steve Whitkoff, son-in-law of the White House chief Jared Kushner, as well as generals Jack Keane and supreme commander of NATO forces in Europe Alexus Hrynkiewicz.

Zelensky also expressed gratitude to Alliance Secretary General Mark Rutte, who represented NATO.

"We very much appreciate the active work of the American side at different levels - not only to end the war, but also to ensure Ukraine's security and prevent another Russian invasion. This demonstrates the seriousness of America's intentions and determination for results," the president wrote.

According to Zelensky, security guarantees are "one of the most important things for all further steps."

"We have already had a negative experience of the Budapest Memorandum. Everyone remembers it, as well as the fact that Russia has repeatedly violated all its other commitments. Therefore, it is now important that this document on security guarantees should contain concrete answers to what Ukrainians are most concerned about: what will be the actions of partners if Russia decides to come with its aggression again," the Ukrainian president emphasized.

According to Zelensky, the sides agreed that "the teams will actively work for the sake of having a concrete understanding of security guarantees in the near future."
