The U.S. president recognized the complexity of the situation.
US President Donald Trump has said that despite the complexity, a peace deal on Ukraine could work. He emphasized that many people want to see it work.
The White House reported.
Trump said while speaking to reporters that there has been "significant progress" in achieving peace in Ukraine.
"We'll see what happens. We're working to see if we can get an agreement now. We'll know soon enough," he said to a question on Ukraine.
Trump was also asked how a "free economic zone" would work in the Donbass and other lands Russia has seized. To this he answered nothing.
"I don't want to talk about it now. It's a very complicated situation, but it could work. And there are a lot of people who want it to work. All I want to do is stop the deaths of 25,000 people a month," Trump said.
