Uladzimir Labkovich: Statkevich Is In Prison

He remains a political prisoner.

Ex-political prisoner Vladimir Labkovich told a press conference in Chernihiv what he knows about the fate of opposition leader Nikolai Statkevich.

"We know that Nikolai Statkevich was in the group recovered in the summer of 2025. He refused to leave the Republic of Belarus. As far as we know, he is in detention centers, not on the outside. He remains a political prisoner.

What about documents: I think everyone who is present here can confirm - we have no passports. We were taken out without documents. We were given a certificate of release - an A4 sheet with a photo, passport data and an indication that we were released. We are very grateful to the Ukrainian side for accepting us without documents. We are grateful for the organization of our arrival - everything was as cordial, comfortable and hospitable as possible. We understand how difficult and important it is in the conditions in which Ukraine is now.

I can say that while in prison, I have not met a single person - out of those 80-90 percent with whom I had to communicate - who did not share the pain of Ukraine and did not take an unambiguous position on this war.

We do not know yet what will happen to us next. It's the weekend, the legal issues have not been resolved yet. We only know one thing: they will not give us back. I think we can somehow legalize ourselves, get documents, legal status and continue our activities," said Labkovich.
