A Ukrainian defense startup has signed a 100 million euro deal to produce drones in Germany. Kiev plans to sign a dozen more such deals in the coming year to significantly ramp up production, start selling its products to Western allies and reduce dependence on China, the Financial Times reports.

Founded in 2022, Frontline will open a factory in southern Germany in partnership with Bavarian reconnaissance drone manufacturer Quantum Systems.

The Ukrainian side of the joint venture will get intellectual property and combat experience, while the German side will get automated capabilities At the plant worth 40 million euros in 2026 it is planned to produce 10 thousand drones, which will be sent to Ukraine. After that, the companies will have the right to export the devices to other countries.

According to Matthias Lena of Quantum, who will head the JV, the company is already in talks with the Bundeswehr about supplying it with new drones. Oleksandr Kamyshyn, a freelance strategic adviser to the Ukrainian president, told the FT that the JV should be the first of 10 such projects planned for Europe over the next year.
