"The Boeings flew to Russia.
Belarusian state airline Belavia flies to Russia on Boeings, despite the ban of the U.S. government. This was found out by investigative journalists of "Bureau".
In early November, the United States officially lifted sanctions against Belavia. The lifting of sanctions was discussed in September, when fifty prisoners, including political prisoners, were released from Belarusian prisons and taken to Lithuania.
Belavia was banned from using American-made airliners for flights to Russia, Iran, North Korea, Syria, Cuba and the occupied territories of Ukraine. The U.S. Department of Commerce outlined these conditions in September in a special letter to Belavia CEO Igor Cherginets. It specified eight specific Boeing 737 airplanes.
The Bureau journalists studied their flight schedules - it turned out that seven airliners violated the U.S. requirements. In September-November, all of them flew to Moscow, six flew to St. Petersburg and Sochi. Three airliners flew to Kazan and Yekaterinburg, two - to Kaliningrad. Separate airplanes were bound for Makhachkala, Noyabrsk, Kirov, Samara and Vladikavkaz.
