Ales Bialiatski Wrote Two Books Behind Bars

They were confiscated.

On the day of his release, Nobel laureate and political prisoner Ales Bialiatski was taken away all the manuscripts and few letters that had reached him during his imprisonment. The Nobel laureate and former political prisoner told about it in an interview with DW.

The manuscripts seized from Bialiatski included two books of memoirs written by him.

The actions he compared to the period of Stalin's repressions: "Such things remind me of the 1930s, when, as I was told, manuscripts, records, books of Belarusian writers were burned in 1937. It all happened in the yard of the KGB or in the yard of Volodarka. People's memory, their correspondence, their emotions were destroyed".
