Hong Kong Flu Is Circulating In Belarus

The virus has already been detected in 30 countries.

The Ministry of Health of Belarus noted that in mid-December 2025, the country is experiencing a seasonal increase in the number of people sick with acute respiratory infections and influenza.

Data from laboratory tests indicate the circulation of influenza A viruses in Belarus. Mainly influenza A (H3N2), this strain is also called Hong Kong flu and influenza A (H1N1), which belongs to the pandemic strain of 2009, it is also called swine flu.

The Ministry of Health notes that non-influenza respiratory viruses are also circulating, including adenoviruses, rhinoviruses, MS viruses, bocaparvoviruses, metapneumoviruses, seasonal coronaviruses, and SARS-CoV-2 virus.

The Department of Health states that most flu patients have not been vaccinated in the fall of 2025 and most flu patients are being treated as outpatients.

"Increase in the number of hospitalized due to influenza - is not noted," - said the Ministry of Health and stressed that in December 2025 the incidence of ARI and influenza is within the average multiyear indicators.

The cases of infection with Hong Kong flu have already been registered in 30 countries in all regions of the world, with the exception of South America. The first cases were detected in August in Australia and New Zealand.
