Cole Stated His Intention To Release At Once About A Thousand Political Prisoners In Belarus
John Cole

This could happen "within a few months," he said.

Special Envoy of US President Donald Trump John Cole spoke about the possible simultaneous release of about 1,000 Belarusian political prisoners. He said this at the US Embassy in Vilnius, reports "Zerkalo".

"I would like it to be one big group, but it has to be dealt with. It's a logistical problem to gather about a thousand people and get them to where they need to be," Cole said.

He said it could happen "within a few months."

Reminder, December 13, after Cole's visit to Belarus, 123 political prisoners were released from colonies - they were expelled from the country. Most - to Ukraine (for the first time), a few - to Lithuania (not for the first time).

The released include Viktor Babariko, Maria Kolesnikova, Ales Bialiatski, Maxim Znak, Marina Zolotova. Most of them, including 109 citizens of Belarus, were taken to Ukraine. From there, they will be transferred to the EU at will and after medical care.

After that, Cole said that about one large group of political prisoners may be released in Belarus in the coming months. According to him, if the political prisoners are fully released, most of the sanctions against Belarus may be lifted.

- I think it's a fair exchange," added Trump's special envoy.
