Ukrainian troops have pushed back the Russian occupants from Kupyansk and took control of almost 90% of the city's territory.
According to this the AFU Commander-in-Chief Alexander Syrsky reported.
Syrsky took part in the 32nd meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine's defense issues "Ramstein", which was held in the format of videoconference.
He informed the allies about the current situation on the front, which remains difficult.
The commander-in-chief also cited specific examples of successful actions of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
"Thanks to active search and strike actions, we managed to push back the occupants from Kupyansk and take control of almost 90 percent of the city's territory," Syrsky said.
The AFU operation in Kupyansk
We will recall that on December 12, the Russian occupiers were encircled in Kupyansk, which according to statements by Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has allegedly already been "liberated" twice. The command of the 2nd Corps of the Ukrainian National Guard "Charter" has announced a successful counterattack by the Ukrainian Defense Forces near Kupyansk.
At least 200 Russians were blocked in Kupyansk, Ukrainian defenders managed to clear the Yubileyny residential area from Russian soldiers. In the process of counter-offensive actions, the Russians lost more than 1,000 soldiers killed alone.
The operation was planned and had been going on since the fall.
The Ukrainian military in Kupyansk also destroyed a gas pipe through which the Russian occupiers were trying to infiltrate the city. Thus, the way for the Russians to enter the city is blocked.
The military said that an active phase of hostilities continues in Kupyansk - the encircled Russian units offer "very harsh" resistance. However, the Ukrainian Defense Forces are continuing the operation to destroy them.
