Andrei Voynich: Belarusians Are Real Heroes

The hour is not far off when we will see the fall of scrappy regimes.

What was 2025 like? What to hope for in 2026? Who are the main heroes of the outgoing year?

An ex-political prisoner, coordinator of the civil campaign "European Belarus" Andrei Voynich asked Andrei Voynich:

- In the outgoing year the practice has shown that sanctions against the Belarusian economy work quite successfully. With the help of sanctions and subsequent negotiations with the regime, it is quite possible to influence the repressive apparatus. However, Lukashenko releases less than he imprisons, he recruits hostages quite actively.

But the practice itself shows that if this process is set up more competently and uncompromisingly, it is possible to stop repression in Belarus.

At the world level, this year the regimes of our leader's friends began to fall like dominoes. This is Assad in Syria, this is the chair that wobbles under Maduro.

And all over the world there have been changes for the better in this respect. I think that the hour is not far when we will see the fall of larger and more backward regimes.

- With what hopes do you enter the coming New Year?

- I enter the coming year with the hope that in our wonderful Belarus this absurdity, which has been going on for the last 30 years, will end. Probably, this is my most important hope.

- Who are the main heroes of the outgoing year for you?

- If personalized, I would call Nikola Statkevich the main hero of the outgoing year. This is a Belarusian with a capital letter, who showed his character, broke the system, and once again proved that Belarusians are a very strong people. If not personalized, it is probably all Belarusians, the whole Belarusian people, who break and break, but they can't break and will never break.

Only Belarusians in the most critical situation can support others in such a way. And this support does not stop. And these are the people who will fight simply to the last.

Belarusians, in my opinion, are real heroes. I am very proud to be a Belarusian and proud of every representative of our people.
