USA Releases Imprisoned Russian

An exchange took place.

American Marc Fogel has been released from a Russian prison in exchange for the release of a Russian imprisoned in the United States. This was announced to the Russian media on Wednesday, 12 February, by Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

‘Recently, work has been intensified along the lines of the relevant agencies, there have been contacts, and they resulted in releasing Fogel, as well as one of the Russian citizens who is currently being held in detention centres in the United States,’ Peskov was quoted as saying by Interfax.

Putin's spokesman did not disclose the name of the Russian, but said that he ‘will also be returned to Russia one of these days.’ ‘Such agreements are hardly capable of becoming a turning point, but at the same time, bit by bit, they are certain steps to build up the very mutual trust that is now at its lowest point,’ the official added.
