NBC: Audit Finds No Critical Pentagon Weapons Shortage

Continued aid to Ukraine will not undermine the U.S. military capability itself.

An inspection of the US military stockpile, after which the Pentagon suspended arms supplies to Ukraine, did not reveal a critical shortage. This was reported by NBC News, citing sources.

The sources said that the level of some precision munitions was reduced, but did not reach the minimum acceptable threshold. The Joint Chiefs of Staff concluded that continued aid to Ukraine would not undermine the U.S. military itself.

The decision to temporarily suspend the shipments was, according to NBC, an initiative of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and his deputy Elbridge Colby, who has long advocated reducing U.S. involvement in the Russia-Ukraine war and refocusing resources on containing China in the Indo-Pacific region.

As Politico noted the other day, the halt in shipments came as a surprise even to knowledgeable officials in the State Department and Congress. The publication's sources claim that it was Colby, not Hegseth, who played a key role in the decision.

Officially, U.S. authorities continue to declare support for Ukraine. President Vladimir Zelensky noted that Kiev was consulting with Washington on resuming supplies.
