ISW Tells What To Expect From The Alaska Summit

Russia's goals with regard to Ukraine have not changed.
The Kremlin plans to use the planned meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Alaska not for meaningful peace talks but to weaken unity between the United States and Europe. This is according to a report by the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Analysts note that recent statements by Russian leaders indicate Moscow's attempts to make Ukraine and Europe look like an obstacle to peace. Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitri Medvedev accused Europe of allegedly hindering U.S. efforts to stop the war, while LDPR leader Leonid Slutsky said European countries "do not allow for a quick peace settlement."
Russian political analyst Sergei Markov said in an interview with The Washington Post that the only "compromise" Russia is willing to make is stopping the fighting after the seizure of the Odessa and Kharkov regions, as well as Kherson and Zaporizhzhya. It also held Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and European leaders responsible for the war.
ISW notes that Ukrainian and European officials have demonstrated a willingness to negotiate in good faith and conclude real cease-fire agreements, but Moscow has steadily rejected these proposals, instead seeking concessions and consolidating military gains.
In the institute's assessment, Russia's strategic goals remain unchanged: preventing Ukraine from joining NATO, installing a pro-Russian government in the
